About us
We build every review on objective, consistent, and repeatable testing that reveals real laptop performance.
Our testing and scoring process combines data-driven benchmarks with expert subjective assessment. We use objective tests wherever possible, and we apply structured subjective ratings for product areas that can’t be measured with numbers alone. This combination produces fair, honest, and thorough product reviews.
Each product category we test has its own customized testing and scoring process.
How We Review
We research and test laptops, then publish our findings in reviews, comparisons, best-of guides, and videos.
Our process to discover the best laptops for today’s buyers includes 4 critical steps.
- Research
- Receive
- Test
- Review
The majority of products we test go through this same process. It is in-depth, rigorous, and designed to mirror real-world use. We test laptops at our home testing lab and within our own homes for day-to-day use.
Research the Category
Before reviewing any product, we start with research on what is already on the market. We examine multiple sources to understand essential product information before beginning a hands-on test.
We consider features, specs, and usability to determine which products ultimately come to LaptopFPS for a test drive.
Receive the Product
Once we’ve selected which laptops are ready for a LaptopFPS review, we source them from local stores, brand retail outlets, and personal networks. We have team members across the UK, Canada, Europe, the Middle East, and Australia. These team members also test laptops and provide data for our reviews.
Free Products
In addition, we accept product samples from manufacturers and retailers. These free products don’t earn any extra points in our scoring. You can see the free products we’ve received in the table below.
Put It to the Test
The exact details of our laptop tests vary by product type, but each product is compared across similar testing criteria within its category. We approach testing the way any consumer would.

We evaluate 3 core dimensions during testing.
- What the product was designed to do.
- How well it performs that specific job.
- Whether it has features that increase overall value.
We document the results of each test with real data to show how the laptop performs across every benchmark. The overall product score is based on the combined results of all tests and product analysis.
Long Term Test Team
We have a small team of long-term testing volunteers, mostly family and friends of LaptopFPS employees.

We provide them with products we’ve already tested for their own day-to-day use. All we ask is that they check in periodically and share how the product is performing over weeks and months of regular use. If these long-term tests reveal major product flaws, longevity issues, or other critical information, we update the respective review to include those findings.
The Final Review
The final review is written after all tests and analysis are complete. Our reviews include a broad-spectrum look at product performance as well as the small details and specifications. Each of these factors can play a role in whether a buyer chooses to purchase a product.
We share our opinion on how good a particular product is. Everyone’s needs and desires are different. We try to arm you with enough information, pros, and cons to determine if the product can meet your specific requirements.
What’s great for 1 person isn’t always great for another.
Pre-Test Reviews
Some products go through our pre-test review process. For these products, we complete in-depth research but don’t personally test the product.
We conduct pre-test reviews for products that meet 1 or more of the following criteria.
- Not in high demand from our readers.
- Substantially similar to other products we’ve tested.
- Suitable for review through research alone.
In some cases, we want to capture initial thoughts on a product but plan to fully test it later. To review these products, we rely on our previous tests of similar products, manufacturer specs, and 3rd-party data.
How We Score
We take scoring and rating products seriously. We are always working to improve our scoring processes, methodologies, and standards so we can deliver the most accurate and helpful reviews possible.
Our scoring system is universal and applies to all products on LaptopFPS. We rate based on 5 factors that best capture the essence of a product’s overall performance.
Our 5 Scoring Factors
- CPU and GPU. Design, features, and specs that impact usability and performance.
- Performance. How well the product does what it was designed to do.
- Quality. Materials, construction, and longevity.
- Usability. How easy and intuitive the product is for day-to-day use.
- Value. Whether performance, quality, and usability justify the price.
Each factor is worth 20% of the total score. Our 5 factors are scored on a 100% scale.
Our Scoring Scale
- 95 to 100%, Exceptional. This is the top tier.
- 90 to 94%, Good. Products here demonstrate strong overall performance.
- 85 to 89%, Okay. Products here deliver acceptable performance.
- 80 to 84%, Poor. Products here fall below expectations.
- Below 80%, Failing. Products here do not meet minimum standards.
All scores are colour-coded to make performance levels immediately clear. Green signals stronger performance, and red signals weaker performance.
In rare cases, we swap scoring categories when they don’t apply to a specific product type. Only a handful of reviews to date have required this adjustment.
Data-Driven Testing
All laptops are tested with a consistent battery of data-driven tests. We conduct 12 individual tests and gather 18 data points on each laptop. Our systematic testing process creates scores, data, photos, and videos that are easily comparable from laptop to laptop.
We measure, record, and analyze objective and quantifiable data for each laptop. This helps us create more objective reviews grounded in evidence. Where objective analysis isn’t possible, we use highly structured and defined subjective assessment ratings.
Transparent and Fair Scoring
All testing and scoring methodologies are explained within our reviews and tooltips, and detailed fully here. In addition, every best laptop list has a clear set of guidelines we followed to select the winners for that list.
Structure, consistency, and transparency are key to every review, comparison, and best laptop list we create. While many other review sites may choose winners based on who pays them the most, we select winners based on our scores and clearly defined metrics.
No Paid Content
The brands we test cannot pay us to review their laptop, inflate their score, or buy a top ranking on our best laptop lists. Our scores are derived from our objective, systematic, and data-driven reviews. Our recommendations are based on our scores. The laptops that earn the highest scores also earn our recommendations.

About the Editor in Chief

| About Kalyan Das Gupta |
Kalyan Das Gupta is the founder and lead reviewer at LaptopFPS.com. He oversees all laptop testing, content planning, and editorial operations for the website. Every laptop on the site is personally tested and reviewed by Kalyan.
Experience and Background
Kalyan Das Gupta started his career as a repair technician at a laptop brand. He held that role for nearly 7 years, where his daily work involved diagnosing hardware faults and fixing them on gaming laptops, standard notebooks, and 2-in-1 convertibles. During the same period, he was also building custom gaming PCs for customers on the side.
Through this hands-on work, Das Gupta encountered recurring failures even in gaming laptops costing around ₹2,00,000. The issues ranged from dried thermal paste and dust blockage to loose video ribbon cables and component-level failures. Over the years, he developed a very practical understanding of how a laptop actually fails in real use, and what separates reliable hardware from cheap hardware.
Between 2023 and 2025, Das Gupta worked as a freelance tech writer covering laptops, processors, and graphics cards for several Indian technology websites and magazines. During this period, he reviewed more than 200 laptops. This work helped him build a strong expertise in comparing Intel and AMD processors generation by generation, and in understanding how chip architecture changes with each release.
In May 2026, Kalyan launched LaptopFPS.com with 1 clear goal. He wanted to bring data-driven, unbiased, and rigorous laptop reviews to Indian buyers, because most online reviews are opinion-based. Das Gupta designed the entire testing methodology from scratch, fully by himself. His thinking was simple. Every review must stand on numbers and repeatable measurements, not on personal feeling alone.
Our Mission
Das Gupta’s goal is to make LaptopFPS.com India’s most trusted and data-first laptop review platform. Kalyan tests every recommendation with the same rigor, whether the laptop costs ₹30,000 or ₹3,00,000. Our mission is straightforward. We help Indian buyers find the best laptop for their budget, their needs, and their priorities.
